Collection: Russian Lacquer Miniatures

Russian lacquer boxes are exquisite hand-painted miniatures, world-renowned for their intricate beauty and deep ties to Russian folklore and culture. These collectible works of art are traditionally crafted in four villages—Palekh, Fedoskino, Kholui, and Mstera—each with its own distinctive style. Palekh is known for its delicate lines and fairy tale scenes, Fedoskino for its use of mother-of-pearl and oil-based paints, Kholui for its vibrant colors, and Mstera for its soft pastel tones and historical themes. Made from papier-mâché, each box is meticulously hand-painted and lacquered through a process that can take many months.

Our store has represented these remarkable creations for over 25 years, originally through the website lacquerbox.com, one of the leading sources during that time. Now, you can explore and purchase these beautiful pieces right here on our site or in person at our store. Whether you're building a collection or searching for a meaningful gift, we’re confident you’ll find something special.

If you see a box online you'd like to view in person, please email us at thebookescape@gmail.com a day in advance. Our current display cases hold only a limited number of pieces, but we’re happy to prepare any item for your visit.
