This beautifully crafted Russian lacquer box brings to life the enchanting fairy tale The Golden Cockerel by Alexander Pushkin. Painted in vivid detail, the curved surface portrays key scenes from the story, including the wise but troubled Tsar Dadon, a mysterious eastern queen, and a loyal warrior—each rendered in traditional costume with expressive features. The background features ornate palace towers and golden-domed churches, evoking the grandeur of a fantastical Russian kingdom. The lid is crowned with a depiction of the golden cockerel itself, the magical bird gifted by an astrologer to warn the tsar of approaching danger. Gilded trim along the base adds a final touch of elegance to this unique piece, blending folklore, fine craftsmanship, and rich storytelling in the style of traditional Russian lacquer miniature art. The box was painted about 20 years ago by a master of Fedoskino art and form Sergei Zotov.
