This beautifully crafted Russian lacquer box is a fine example of traditional Fedoskino miniature painting, a celebrated art form originating from a small village in Russia. The lid features an intricate, hand-painted scene from the beloved Russian fairy tale The Frog Princess. A young man, Prince Ivan, is shown kneeling in a lush meadow, gently holding a glowing frog adorned with a delicate crown—symbolizing the enchanted princess. His expression is one of awe and curiosity, and the luminous aura surrounding the frog suggests the moment of transformation or realization of the frog’s magical nature. The vivid reds and greens, along with the detailed gold accents on his garments, highlight the artist's skill in layering oils and luminescent paints over a black lacquer base. This round box not only serves as a functional keepsake but also preserves a piece of Russian folklore in an enchanting, storybook-like presentation.  The box is made of high quality paper mache using traditional techniques. Painted still in the Soviet era, the box still maintains a nice lacquer finish with no significant cracks or flaws.
