Circa 1900. Eight-volume set, complete. Hardcover in decorative gilt-stamped green cloth, all edges red. Rubbing to gilt, esp. at spines (cover gilt is largely intact, though rather tarnished), lightly frayed short tears to spines at top and foot, light chipping to spine of Vol. I at foot, else general light wear to boards, with occasional scuffs and tiny threadbare spots; all front inner hinges are fragile, some are cracked (all are holding); title page and front free endpaper of Vol. I are completely disbound (but present); neat ink name on front pastedown of each volume (excepting Vol. IV); interiors are clean, square, and lightly browned. Fully illustrated with B&W engravings. All told, the set is both attractive and readable, although the covers are perhaps more eye-catching than the spines. ***We ship daily.
